Data released this Monday by the Ministry of Mobility (Semovi) revealed that so far in 2020 87 people have died in motorcycle accidents: it represents an increase of almost 50% compared to all of 2019 when 59 citizens died on motorcycles.


The agency reported that to address the problem it is working with groups of motorcyclists, academic institutions, and the National Council for Standardization and Certification of Labor Skills of the Ministry of Public Education ( SEP ) in the creation of a new license specifically for driving motorcycles.


Applicants, to obtain it, must have practical and theoretical knowledge of the vehicle, according to Excelsior. Remove also indicated that the license will be ready at the end of the year for the beginning of its process; the COVID-19 pandemic delayed its process.

Initially, the new license would be required for workers who use motorcycles to work in mobile application services for the delivery of food and merchandise, such as Rappi, UberEats, SinDelantal, and Didi Food, among others. The government's plan includes training for operators.


According to information published by the Secretary of Mobility, Andrés Lajous, on March 7, Mexico City is going through a growth in the vehicle fleet of motorcycles.
